Caring for a loved one at the end of life is a great honor and responsibility, but it can also be overwhelming. That is why Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice are proud to offer this proprietary series of caregiver videos – designed to help you become more confident in your abilities to provide the hands-on support your loved one needs.
This proprietary video series was created to address the most frequently asked questions from more than 100,000 caregivers. Each video features step-by-step guidance and encouragement to help you provide the care and support help your loved one needs.

Topic 1: Anxiety
At times, any hospice patient can become anxious, confused or agitated. There are many reasons for these symptoms. This video provides ideas and strategies to help your loved one remain calm.
Topic 2: Fall Prevention
As people age, the risk for falls and injuries increases. The risk increases even further for hospice patients. This video provides strategies to improve safety and reduce the risk for falls.
Topic 3: Incontinence Care – Changing a Brief
A critical task of caregiving includes managing bowel and bladder incontinence. This video provides instructions for changing an adult brief to ensure your loved one remains comfortable.
Topic 4: Medication
This video provides instructions about managing medications, including how to crush tablets; how to draw-up liquid medications in a syringe or dropper; and how to administer medications.
Topic 5: Mouth Care
Providing good mouth and lip care is one of the most important ways to help keep your loved one comfortable. This video provides strategies for managing a dry mouth and instructions for providing mouth care (or denture care).
Topic 6: Nausea & Vomiting
Nausea and vomiting is distressing for the patient and caregiver. This video includes strategies to manage the symptoms and provide relief for your loved one.
Topic 7: Oxygen
Hospice patients may experience shortness of breath or other difficulties breathing. This video provides strategies on how to improve respiratory comfort, as well as information on how to properly operate an oxygen machine.
Topic 8: Urinary Catheter Care
If the hospice nurse and your physician determine that a urinary catheter is best option to keep your loved one comfortable, this video provides instructions on how to care for the catheter system.
